The Curly Girls Guide to Summer Essentials
It's officially summer ladies! Every curly girl knows that when the seasons change your hair routine has to evolve too. So, I teamed up with one of my fave curly girls Kenya Raymer to bring you our summer essentials guide. Kenya is a writer, blogger, dancer and the hostess of the natural-hair meet up Curls & Cocktails. She is a self-love enthusiast who uses her natural-hair platform as a space to discuss hair and all things beautiful & real. Here's the best from both of our worlds. A Curly Girls Guide to Summer '16:
TRESemme Moisture Rich is part of Kenya's regular wash & co-wash routine. It puts in extra work
during the summer heat! Before swimming, she co-washes & uses it as a leave-in. It helps her hair hold onto moisture & it reduces tangles while swimming. Tip: Braid your hair before and after getting in the water to make washing & styling less of a nightmare!
My summer necessity, as a hair color obsessed naturalista, is the Matrix Total Results So Silver Shampoo. This violet hued shampoo ensures that your color remains bright and brilliant all summer long. Direct sunlight exposure can lighten your hair and reveal unwanted brassy tones. Add the So Silver Shampoo to your wash routine to keep your highlight, balayage, and even gray hair looking pristine.
Headscarves are an accessory we both love! They are not only fashionable, and can be worn in a variety of styles, but they also protect your hair & scalp from the sun & wind, and they dress up a messy head! Tip: Don't shy away from circle or infinity scarves. If
you really like a print, cut the scarf along the seam & start wrapping! One of Kenya's favs is this colorful scarf from Target.
I'm in love with the vibrant colors and geometric prints featured in this head wrap. Check out The Wrap Life to find more like this.
Speaking of fashion, one cannot rock summer without beautiful cover-ups! Cover-ups can add a chic resort feel to any swimming hole & like headscarves, they protect you from the sun & wind. Kenya slayed in this floor length kimono during her bachelorette weekend. She is recommending this one-size-fits-all beach cover up by Andrea Iyamah. Straight fierceness! I'm so getting this for my summer bae-cation. Love it!
All summer '16 I'm rocking bright colors. Why? Because the 90's are back and it's my prerogative! Check out the retro nail colors by my new fav polish line Morgan Taylor. Their Street Beat summer collection is feminine take on cross colors. Nostalgia is in the air and I feel right at home.
Our final summer necessity is the most important, skin care!
Kenya opts for Coppertone Faces Sunscreen. She has extremely sensitive skin, and it has taken her years to find a sunscreen that provides coverage without breakouts & irritation. She loves Coppertone Faces because it is oil-free, lightweight and it comes in 30 & 50 SPF. Tip: You can actually use it all over your body for oil free protection. We say no to body acne!
My pick is like sunscreen for the hair. Paul Mitchell Sun Shield Conditioning Spray helps shield hair from damaging UV rays while preventing color fade. Pop this spray in your beach bag and refresh your hair before, after, and during your beach or pool time.
Thanks to my good friend Kenya for joining me on this blog collaboration. You can keep up with all things Kenya on Halflietruths.com. She's a great resource for Nashville eats, animal rescue, self-awareness, personal growth, happiness and finding comfort in your own skin (and hair).
